Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Investigating Our Practices Annual Conference
Saturday, May 5th 2007
Neville Scarfe Building
This conference will comprise an exciting program of events and projects featuring local educators and “virtual guests” from around the world to share investigations, understandings and questions around teacher education. Teaching is demanding and complex work, made more difficult if it is done in isolation or without testing understandings publicly. In order to understand and improve teaching, many teachers engage in classroom or school-based investigations of the what, the how and the why of their professional practice. Consistent with an emphasis on educational practice, the conference stresses dialogue among participants; presentations are intended to provoke and inform discussion. These exchanges will be organized around five streams:
- the preparation of practitioners (i.e., initial teacher education)
- the ongoing education of practitioners (i.e., professional development)
- the improvement of classroom practice (e.g. new strategies, materials, curriculum)
- the context of practice (e.g., social, political, cultural analysis of practice)
- researching practice (i.e., teacher action research)
