On August 29 & 30, 2017, the Teacher Education Office welcomed instructors and faculty advisors to the Faculty Orientation for the 2017/18 BEd program.
Day one of the orientation took place at the University Golf Club with the morning session including a warm welcome from Associate Dean of Teacher Education Dr. Wendy Carr and Dean Blye Frank followed with presentations by Dr. Jennifer Katz (Current Approaches to Inclusive Education), Dr. Jan Hare (First People’s Principles of Learning), Dr. Eva Oberle (Supporting Teachers’ Wellness and Mental Health), and Bette Shippam and Dr. Lorrie Miller (Teacher Candidate Support). The afternoon session included presentations by Dr. Natasha Boskic, Yvonne Dawydiak, Jo-Anne Naslund, and Wendy Traas on Education Technology Support and an introduction to BEd cohorts by program coordinators Rod Brown and John Yamamoto. The end of the day included break-off group meetings for elementary/middle years cohort coordinators and French instructors/faculty advisors.
The following day, faculty advisors gathered in the Education Centre at Ponderosa Commons for presentations and workshops on various topics such as effective mentoring practices, crisis management, reporting, and Teacher Education For All!
