Work by Dr. Ian Franks, a UBC kinesiology professor, was mentioned in a Wired U.K. article about data analytics in football.
In 2005, Franks and Mike Hughes, a mathematician who pioneered computational-notational analysis, examined data from two World Cup tournaments and found that teams that completed more passes had a better chance of scoring.
