International Engagement: Faculty of Education Heads to Asia

As part of our strategic plan, the Faculty of Education continues to expand its international engagement efforts across the globe. Next stop: Dr. Tom Sork visits Asia.

Dr. Tom Sork, Senior Associate Dean, International & Administration, is heading to Asia to continue his work in international engagement. From October 21 to November 14, Dr. Sork will attend meetings and conferences in China, India and Korea. Read more about the trip, which includes Dr. Don Fisher and Shapoor Marfatia from PDCE.

Dr. Sork and Dr. Don Fisher will meet with the Dean of the Faculty of Education of East China Normal University and conduct seminars for the Institute of Higher Education.

Following ECNU, Dr. Sork will travel Southwest University, Chongqing to represent the Faculty of Education at a “tri-nations conference” on equity and access issues in rural and urban education.

He and Shapoor Marfatia of PDCE will then travel to New Delhi where Tom deliver a lecture at the International Institute for Adult and Lifelong Education, attend a Summit on Higher Education sponsored by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce, and visit colleagues at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the National University of Educational Planning and Administration to discuss collaborative projects. Their final stop in India will be Mumbai where they will visit SNDT Women’s University and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Tom will return via Seoul where he will visit a local international school lead by a UBC alumnus and Korea University.
