Online Info Session | MEd in Modern Languages Education (FRM6) – December 2017

Updated on 2017/12/19

When: Friday, December 15, 2017 | 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Where: Online

Meet the MEd in Modern Languages Education (FRM6) program advisor — Dr. Meike Wernicke — and learn more about applying to become a graduate student.

About the program:

This French Master’s program offers teachers in French Immersion, Intensive and Core French, and francophone programs an opportunity to examine classroom practices from a research-informed perspective. The focus is on students’ specific interests related to French second language teaching, such as curriculum renewal, multilingual pedagogies, Indigenous perspectives, technology and media, and cultural learning, to name a few.

The 30-credit program is taught entirely in French, requiring participants to be comfortable with written and spoken French (readings and assignments are in French and English). Each year of the program begins with a three-week course in Montreal, giving students the opportunity to interact with one another face-to-face, and benefit from the many cultural activities in a francophone-multilingual setting. This is followed by three online courses from September to June, which students attend via web-conferencing.

Action research in French as a second language education forms the core of this program. As a result, coursework centers on the application of research in second language methodologies and bi-/plurilingual approaches to teaching and assessment, second language acquisition, and intercultural learning. In addition, students investigate a specific topic relevant to their own classrooms in the form of a capstone project.
