Donald Rix, Clinical Assistant Professor Emeritus of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine 1999, passed away on Friday 6 November 2009. Dr. Rix received an honorary degree (LL.D.) from UBC in May 2006. He began his long career in medicine as a general practitioner and became an enthusiastic supporter of youth, education, the arts and entrepreneurship. Dr. Rix was a founder and chairman of MDS Metro (now LifeLabs), chairman of the B.C. Innovation Council, chairman of Genome B.C. and a member of the Premier's Technology Council.
