Mentorship pilot to support new teachers

April 23, 2012

As part of Education Week in 2012, Education Minister George Abbott announced a New Teacher Mentoring Project that will provide new teachers the training and support from experienced colleagues.

UBC, the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF), the British Columbia School Superintendents Association, the Ministry of Education and various school districts will partner in this project, with the ultimate goal of creating a provincewide mentorship program.

Dr. Ryuko Kubota sees opportunity in the controversy surrounding a new bilingual Mandarin English program, which has led her to shape a case study of second language education and issues of race in multicultural Canada.

An Associate Professor in Language & Literacy Education (LLED), Dr. Kubota presents her research findings at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) meeting, taking place in Vancouver April 13-17, 2012.
