Barbara Howard, a UBC education alumna who is believed to have been the first black woman to represent Canada in a major international competition, was remembered in the Globe and Mail.
She was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the BC Sports Hall of Fame, and Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame. She earned an education degree from UBC in 1959. She died in January at age 96.
