The
UBC Child & Family Project is team of
co-investigators from the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada. The team is
comprised of people involved in diverse fields of
research and action for children and
families. They see how valuable it is to
share knowledge across disciplines, adopt more
holistic approaches to research and take part in
collaboration between academics and community-based
professionals. The Project received a
three-year funding grant, beginning in May 1999,
from the Research Development Initiative (RDI)
Program
of the Social Sciences & Humanities Research
Council
(SSHRC)
of British Columbia.
The
UBC Child and Family Project supports and extends
the interdisciplinary study of children and
families in order to deepen our understanding of
the interaction amongst the social, psychological,
medical and legal determinants of child and family
health and well-being. This work can enhance
or inform the practice of professionals who work
with children and families in a wide range of
disciplines and settings. There is currently
a significant amount of high level and innovative
research being conducted at UBC within these
fields. The funds from the RDI Program are
fostering the continued development of a community
of discourse of faculty, students and professionals
focusing on the health and well-being of children
and families.
