MCRI FORUM DISCUSSION TOPICS:

Topic 1: COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

What does "collaboration" in research mean to you?  Have you had any experiences with collaborative research that would contribute insight to our proposal?  We welcome your ideas about specific activities that foster a meaningful sense of collaboration, as well as challenges we should all be sensitive to in the process of planning collaborative research work.

Topic 2: UNIVERSITY-COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP RESEARCH

What does "university-community partnership" mean to you?  What are the particular research approaches that are meaningful for community groups (both the PROCESS of community involvement and the SUBSTANCE of the research itself).  What do you see as your personal role in this type of partnership?

Topic 3: PARTNERING WITH STUDENTS

What do you see as the role for graduate students in the MCRI agenda?  Be creative!... The MCRI will assist in training new professionals in child development related fields.  By combining their theoretical inquiries with their field work in community settings, these students will be part of envisioning more constructive approaches to working together for the health and well-being of children and families.

Topic 4: RESEARCH WITH AND FOR CHILDREN

Ultimately, this proposal is about providing children with the support they need to be healthier and happier.  It is about demonstrating how we can do this better so that less children are threatened by risk factors that undermine health and happiness.  Do you have any ideas about what makes for "child-friendly research"?  How can we communicate our research outcomes to communities and policy-makers in ways that keep us focused on these fundamental goals?
