COVID-19: Faculty of Education Updates: Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP)

March 19, 2020 | 10:00 am

Aanii (Greetings) NITEP Students,

UBC, the Faculty of Education, and NITEP continue to prioritize the well-being of our NITEP students in light of the many directives resulting from COVID-19. I want to provide some updates for our NITEP students.

Coursework: NITEP instructors are working to ensure students remain supported during this transition. Most of you will already be engaged in online coursework. Instructors will be engaged with students to ensure student success and necessary supports.

Consecutive and Non-Consecutive Day Experiences: In light of indefinite K to 12 school closures announced by the BC Government and reducing community vulnerability, we will be making alternative arrangements regarding remaining consecutive and non-consecutive days associated with seminar courses. Instructors will be in contact with students regarding other modalities for this important experience.

NITEP students in the professional year of the program will receive directive from TEO, who is coordinating with the Teacher Regulation Branch.

Online Wellness Wednesday Drop-In: NITEP extends an invite to an online drop-in Wellness Wednesday taking place virtually for the next few weeks (Wednesday March 25th and April 1st) from 12:00 – 2:00PM. Join our Wellness Peers, and Alexis and Jennifer in this virtual classroom. It is important to maintain community and connection, so please drop in to this session. We will be providing the link.

Office and Staffing: NITEP staff will be working remotely over the coming weeks. You can email NITEP at nitep.educ@ubc.ca or leave a phone message at 604-822-5240.
NITEP will continue to provide students with updates as we receive directives from the BC Government, UBC, and the Faculty of Education.
