Risk Management and Safety Planning

UBC advice regarding risk management and safety planning for on-campus activities is fundamentally the same as for the fall (with the exception of the transition from in-person to online teaching for many programs until February 7). However, this guidance was updated on January 13, 2022.

The assumption is that for research activity, we are still following Step 3 protocols implemented in Fall 2021; the link for guidance to those in research labs in particular is dated January 6, 2022 and can be found here.

It is up to Principal Investigators, Lab Directors and Unit Heads to make determinations regarding in-person research in light of the particulars of each context. This has been the case since last fall. The January 6, 2022 research lab guidance link says “Masks are not required in a workshop or research laboratory where students or members of the public are not present.” It is assumed that Omicron has changed that practice (although it hasn’t been updated since) to prevent COVID transmission among lab personnel.
