The UBC Faculty of Education is launching its 7th Annual walking challenge, Walkabout 2013.
Launching on January 16, 2013, Walkabout is an annual tradition at the Faculty of Education. Teams of staff, students, faculty, and community members participate in a nine-week walking challenge to promote good health and fitness in the new year.
How To Participate
- Create a team of five with four others.
- Each team member wears a pedometer and records his/her respective steps (or exercise equivalent steps) each day.
- At the end of a week, the total number of steps walked by the team are submitted to the website and the distance walked (or exercised!) is calculated and plotted on the Walkabout virtual map.
New This Year
Walkabout has joined in with the Year of Indigenous Education to provide a walking journey through First Nations territories in British Columbia. The Walkabout website includes information about Indigenous communities, organizations, and Nations that we will visit on our virtual adventure. We urge you to combine your physical journey with an imaginative one that engages the Indigenous peoples along our virtual route.
To register and learn more about Walkabout, visit the Walkabout 2013 website here.
Opening Ceremony: Join us on January 16, 2013, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Scarfe 310.
