Enlivening Body, Mind, and Spirit with EcoPoetics
In the cause of health and wellness of body, mind, and spirit, this ecopoetics workshop will engage you physically for a short on campus walk. We will dwell at the Nitobe gardens, where we will engage in imaginative and generative writing games, using methods of writing that you can utilize in your daily work life to create poetry and have fun with language, creating memorable ways of annotating meetings, summarizing information, or keeping a personal records. In this embodied way we will be enhancing the information environments we live in by being more fully aware and part of the environments we inhabit.
In this way mind and spirit are enlivened through imaginative, ecologically aware language practices. After sharing some of our collaboratively generated poems, we will have a reflective discussion as we return to the building and experience the shift in perception imposed by indoor environments. Sustainability is a priority of UBC’s mission and EcoPoetics provides a pleasurable way to practice it on a daily basis.
Please bring with you: your UBC ID card (for entrance to the Nitobe gardens) and a writing pad and pen/pencil. Be prepared for the weather (e.g. sunscreen, hat, walking shoes).
