From foster care to the graduation stage, Jonathan Alvaji’s path to UBC has been shaped by community support, mentorship, hard work and perseverance. On November 26, he’ll cross the stage at a ceremony he once never imagined reaching.
Growing up amid consistent family upheaval, Jonathan eventually entered foster care—a decision that changed his life. With the support of family, youth workers and teachers who recognized his potential, he found stability, confidence and the courage to imagine a different future. His commitment to bettering himself, paired with his growing passion for teaching, propelled him forward.
Today, Jonathan is not only a UBC graduate but a technology teacher dedicated to giving students the same care, encouragement and belief that helped him succeed.
