Biography
Judy Rogers joined the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority board of directors in December 2017 and was named chair in August 2018. She operates her own consulting firm, advising private, public and Crown corporations in government affairs and communications. She held the role of city manager of the City of Vancouver from 1999 to 2008. Ms. Rogers is past chair of the B.C. Assessment Authority, the B.C. Housing Commission and the UBC Alumni Association. She is past president of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and served on the board for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. She received the Order of Canada in 2017 and is the recipient of two United Nations public service awards. She has a Bachelor of Rec Education in Physical Education from UBC. She has a Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Victoria and a honourary doctorate (LLD) from Capilano University.

What is your most memorable experience from your time in the Faculty of Education?
My most memorable experiences include the friendships made, the small group work, the lively debates and thinking about theoretical issues.
Where has your education from the Faculty of Education taken you in your career?
My education has led me to be the chair of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and past chair of the UBCM Alumni Association. I was honoured to be named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network for five straight years, 2003 to 2007. I was also the city manager for the City of Vancouver and chair of two B.C. Crown corporations.
Where do issues of inclusion find a place in your life or at work?
Inclusion is very important to me, personally and professionally. With friends and family, I embrace diversity and strive to be welcoming to all. On the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority board, I work to ensure all voices are included and heard.
Do you have any words of wisdom for current students? Newly graduated folks?
My words of wisdom for current students: be curious, embrace opportunity and trust yourself. My advice for new graduates: use your networks, do not be afraid to work at the bottom, do not expect to start at the top. Put in your time.
