The UBC Faculty of Education’s Okanagan School of Education is shortening its Bachelor of Education (BEd) program from 16 months to 11 months, offering a more efficient pathway to BC teacher certification and employment. The revised program was approved by the UBC Okanagan Senate on November 27 and now awaits final approval from the British Columbia Teachers’ Council, expected in early February 2026.
The BEd remains a post-degree program; applicants must first complete a recognized undergraduate degree before applying. Admission requirements and the selection process remain unchanged, and all applicants for next year will be automatically considered for the revised 11-month format.
