2019 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition

By domansky

Deadline July 5th, 10:00 a.m.

The information for the UBC Internal Banting Competition and full details for the prestigious Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is now available on the PDFO website.

As one of Canada’s most prestigious trainee competitions, the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social and research-based growth.

Host institutions play a critical role in the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program and are asked to endorse only their highest-calibre postdoctoral researchers. In order to ensure that the highest-quality applicants are nominated for the national competition, UBC conducts an Internal Banting Competition. Supervisors who have identified applicants of this calibre must work with these candidates in preparing a Banting Application Package for submission to the Postdoctoral Fellows Office via the UBC Internal Banting Competition Submission Form by Friday, July 5, 2019, 10:00 AM PDT, NO EXCEPTIONS.

In previous years, adjudication of the UBC Internal Banting Competition has been administered by the PDFO. This year, the internal adjudication process is being administered by the Awards unit within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. To ensure that their deadlines are met, the UBC internal competition deadline has been moved from early August to early July. Due to the tight timeline, we are unable to accept applications past this date.

Potential Supervisors can access resources, including a template Supervisor’s Statement, through the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Faculty and Staff Portal at https://faculty-staff.grad.ubc.ca/project/53276. This template was designed to assist Supervisors in crafting competitive Supervisor’s Statements as per the Banting competition requirements, and it is highly recommended that Supervisors use this template in formulating their Supervisor’s Statement. An active CWL account is required to access these resources; please contact postdoctoral.fellows@ubc.ca if you are unable to access this portal.

Please be advised that Banting Postdoctoral Fellows are entitled to benefits. It is the Supervisor’s responsibility to ensure they or their unit have the funding in place to cover these expenses. For more information please consult the benefits website and for sample costs please refer to the benefits cost calculator.

Please refer to the attached competition launch memo and the webpages linked above for more information on the UBC Internal Banting Competition. For questions about the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program, including eligibility and application components, please contact Banting directly at http://banting.fellowships-bourses.gc.ca/en/contact_index.html. For any questions about the UBC Internal Banting Competition, please contact the Postdoctoral Fellows Office at postdoctoral.fellows@ubc.ca

Please note that the UBC Internal Banting Competition is only for candidates interested in holding their fellowship at UBC.
