Congratulations to our Faculty of Education Teaching Assistants who received graduate teaching assistant awards in 2023 in recognition of their exceptional work.
The Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards and Faculty of Education Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards are conferred annually in recognition of the valuable role that teaching assistants play in graduate and undergraduate programs across UBC Vancouver. Recipients are selected based on knowledge of their field, application of new teaching methods, ethics and more.
2023 Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award recipients
Katrina Waldhauser
Katrina Waldhauser is doctoral student in the School of Kinesiology. In her teaching, Katrina focuses on creating opportunities for active engagement with course material and uses empathy to build relationships with students to support classroom learning.
Jeanette Steinmann
Jeanette Steinmann is a doctoral student in the School of Kinesiology whose research interests include topics at the intersection of poverty, mobility, and active transportation. Jeanette uses qualitative mobile methods to explore the experiences of precariously housed people who ride bikes and to investigate links between cycling accessibility and housing.

Aishwarya Ramachandran
Aishwarya Ramachandran is a doctoral student in the School of Kinesiology. Aishwarya has a strong interest in cultivating and participating in inclusive, innovative and interdisciplinary teaching spaces bridging STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and humanities curricula.
Irina Tursunkulova
Irina Tursunkulova is a doctoral student in Department of Language and Literacy Education. Irina’s core values are building relationships with each student, guiding them throughout their learning journey, providing constructive feedback, and committing to continuous learning as a teacher.
