Dr. Mary K. Bryson has been appointed Academic Co-Director of the Public Humanities Hub (PHH) for an initial three months before assuming the role of Academic Director beginning July 1, 2023.
The Public Humanities Hub (PHH) fosters collaborative research in the Humanities in Arts, Law, and Education at UBC Vancouver and is made possible through funding support from the Faculty of Arts, the Allard School of Law, the Faculty of Education, and the Office of the VP Research and Innovation.

Dr. Mary K. Bryson is a Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, with research and teaching interests that include medical humanities, critical literary theory, academic freedom and collegial governance, queer and trans theory and critical digital literacies.
Throughout Dr. Bryson’s 35 years at UBC, they have served in many administrative roles in the faculties of Arts and Education, and the University, which articulate a trajectory of significant expertise and senior leadership experience that can be brought to this critical academic leadership position in the PHH.
Most recently, Dr. Bryson held the appointment of Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, Administration and Innovation in the Faculty of Education (2015–2021) and Director, Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice, Faculty of Arts (2012–2015).
