Congratulations to Giovanna Correa Lucci and Matthew Fliss, recipients of the 2023-24 UBC Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards
In recognition of the valuable role that Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) play in our programs, UBC annually honours GTAs with the Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Up to 19 winners are selected each spring. Successful candidates have met criteria that demonstrate expertise in their respective fields, innovative teaching approaches, adherence to ethical standards and a high-level of esteem for the candidate from undergraduate students and supervisors.
Giovanna Correa Lucci
Giovanna Correa Lucci is a Doctoral student in the Department of Language and Literacy Education whose research focuses on leveraging children’s literature and collaborative multimodal storytelling to promote cultural and emotional literacy and equity within educational settings. A highly valued research and teaching assistant, she is recognized for her outstanding professionalism, work ethic, teamwork, innovation, and mentorship.
Matthew Fliss
Matthew Fliss is a Doctoral student in the School of Kinesiology researching the effects of resistance exercise training on muscle growth, strength, and endurance and the physiological determinants of this transition. Matthew is recognized for his outstanding professionalism, mentorship and teaching skills.
