Make-up Monday

By helen mclaughlin

May 18, 2023

The Vancouver Senate has approved a motion to designate Thursday, October 12, 2023 as a “Make-up Monday” for purposes of academic scheduling. Classes normally scheduled on Thursday, October 12 are cancelled, and will be replaced by the classes normally scheduled on a Monday.

During the 2023 calendar year, statutory holidays have created an imbalance in the numbers of days available for classes on each weekday, with Mondays disproportionately affected. Thursday, October 12 will be used to make up for the shortage of Mondays.

You can read the full details (pages 29-31) at https://senate.ubc.ca/files/REVISED-2023.04.19-SENATE-MEETING-MATERIALS.pdf.

Enrolment Services and Faculties will notify students by a variety of channels before course registration, at the start of Term 1, and leading up to October 12.

Courses cannot opt out of Make-up Monday. This is to ensure sufficient access to teaching spaces and so students can follow their Monday timetable.

Key actions for instructors
