The Office of Research in Education (ORE) is pleased to announce the call for applications for a number of UBC endowed scholarships and prizes available to Faculty of Education graduate students who are making the most outstanding contributions in their fields of study.
The awards included in this call are:
The Dean of Education Scholarship (#1960)
The Jimmar Memorial Scholarship in Education (#1982)
The Donald and Ellen Poulter Scholarship (#2007)
The Mary Elizabeth Simpson Scholarship (#489)
The Joseph Katz Memorial Scholarship (#1956)
The LOMCIRA Harold Covell Memorial Scholarship (#490)
The Janusz Korczak Association of Canada Graduate Scholarship in Children’s Rights and Canadian Indigenous Education (#6523)
Graduate students should discuss whether they meet the criteria for these awards with their Supervisor or Graduate Advisor prior to application.
All application packages must be complete with the signed Award Cover Sheet, the student statements, and a completed graduate student CV. Incomplete application packages will not be accepted by the ORE. Completed applications should be submitted electronically to educ.ore@ubc.ca by 4:00 p.m. on November 4, 2019.

For the 4th episode of the Scholarship Stories, we explore topics related to multilingualism, language learning, and linguistic anthropology with Dr. Patricia (Patsy) Duff, Associate Dean, Research, in the Faculty of Education and Professor in LLED. During the interview, Patsy shares with us her thoughts about language socialization across bilingual and multilingual settings; qualitative research methods in applied linguistics; issues in the teaching, learning, and use of English, Mandarin, and other international and heritage languages in transnational contexts.
