Indigenous-Led Teacher Education in Local and Global Contexts: Setting Research Priorities and New Directions
Indigenous teachers play a significant role in creating environments that are culturally responsive, empowering, inclusive of Indigenous knowledges, and promote decolonization and educational sovereignty in classrooms and communities. To build on these strengths, the Faculty of Education hosted a three-day symposium that brought together Indigenous teacher education programs around the world.

Bringing Indigenous ways of knowing into mental health supports
Dr. Johanna Sam’s team at UBC is listening to the experiences of diverse youth to help them develop coping strategies for cyberbullying. While young people may not use the term “cyberbullying,” they sure know when somebody is mean to them online. That can take different forms, from having an unwanted photo of them shared on social media to being excluded from a group chat.

Dr. Derek Gladwin appointed to the Peter Wall Institute
The Wall Scholars Catalyst program provides 12 UBC scholars with the opportunity to “build connections, cultivate relationships and initiate collaborations that engage with the urgency, scale and complexity of the Climate and Nature Emergency.” The program seeks to provide a platform for academics to explore innovative ways of thinking and engage in interdisciplinary research.

Newly appointed managing editors Dr. Johanna Sam (Tsilhqot’in Nation) and Dr. Shannon Leddy (Métis Nation) are pleased to announce the return of the Canadian Journal of Native Education (CJNE) as an Open Access online journal.
