University Killam Professor in the Faculty of Education

Congratulations to Dr. Bonny Norton, FRSC on her University Killam Professorship

The highest honour UBC can confer on a faculty member, a University Killam Professorship recognizes exceptional teachers and researchers who are leaders in their fields, and who have received international recognition for their talents.

Every University Killam Professor makes a unique contribution, creating and disseminating knowledge that has global impact. Dr. Norton’s seminal research on identity, language learning, and social change is internationally renowned. To promote multilingual literacy for children and youth worldwide, she leads the Global Storybooks project, which harnesses the scalability of digital technology to provide free online reading materials in over 50 languages across five continents.

Dr. Norton is a University Killam Professor, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, member of the UBC Language Sciences Initiative and selected BC 2020 Academic of the Year.
