The Early Childhood Education (ECED) Program within UBC’s Faculty of Education, one of the world’s leading faculties of its kind, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Early Childhood Education.
Situated on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xwmə0kwəy’əm (Musqueam) people in Vancouver, Canada, the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Early Childhood Education (ECED). The appointment is expected to begin on January 1, 2025, or as mutually agreed upon by the University and the successful candidate. The position is for an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will teach in the ECED programs, support program delivery and contribute to the design of undergraduate and graduate courses within the online ECED diploma and certificate programs, and the online MEd and on campus MA and MEd programs.
The successful candidate must possess a doctoral degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related area with successful experience working in early learning settings. An exemplary record of teaching and innovation is required. The successful applicant must contribute to on-going commitments to and relationships with early learning environments in community settings, particularly as they concern early childhood education delivery to students with diverse learning needs, in rural, urban, and Indigenous communities. Experience with developing, teaching, and monitoring early childhood certificate programs, including post-secondary online teaching and learning, is required. Experience working in formal and informal early childhood learning environments including child care, preschools, primary grades schools, and/or similar related settings in schools and communities with young children with special learning needs and their families is required. The successful candidate will be required to keep abreast of current developments in the field of Early Childhood Education. Expert and current knowledge pertaining to the following academic areas is an asset: early childhood development and learning; research methodology related to early learning environments; social and emotional learning, inclusive early education, and/or mental health in early childhood education settings; equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice in early childhood. Work with digital learning environments and design for accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity in early childhood education is also an asset.
The successful candidate is expected to: (a) teach undergraduate and graduate ECED courses; (b) revise, design and develop ECED undergraduate and graduate courses; (c) assist in the implementation of the BC ECE Assistant and Certificate and Post Basic Infant Toddler Certificate programs; (d) provide support for the Infant Development and Support Child Care Certificate and Diploma programs through teaching and course revisions; (e) supervise directed study students; (f) support MEd students in the development of their graduating portfolios; and (g) assist the Director with tasks related to curriculum renewal. The annual workload is 30 credits (equivalent to 10 courses) in ECED, which may include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses scheduled over the academic year, curriculum development, coordination of certificate programs, serving as part of the ECE leadership team, and student academic advisement, as assigned by the Director. It is expected that Lecturers participate fully in affairs and activities of the ECED program.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 – $110,000 per annum. Starting salary is determined both by the candidate’s qualifications and experience and by their placement on the career progress increments scale for Lecturers within the Faculty of Education.

In ECED, we offer two fully online undergraduate diploma and certificate programs (Infant Development and Supported Child Development & Early Years Education), coursework leading to BC Early Childhood Education (ECE) Assistant and Basic Certificates required by the Ministry of Children and Family Development to work in early childhood settings, and a Post-Basic Certificate in Infant/Toddler Education.
