The Master of Educational Technology Program within UBC’s Faculty of Education, one of the world’s leading faculties of its kind, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in New Media and Learning Technologies in Education.
Situated on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xwmə0kwəy’əm (Musqueam) people in Vancouver, Canada, the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in New Media and Learning Technologies in Education. The appointment is expected to begin on January 1, 2025, or as mutually agreed upon by the University and the successful candidate. This position is for an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal. The position will teach in the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program, support program delivery, and contribute to the design of online courses.
The successful candidate must possess: (1) a doctoral degree; (2) expertise in New Media and Learning Technologies; (3) an exemplary record of teaching and innovation in online education; (4) experience with post-secondary online teaching and learning, ideally with experience in schools and other informal learning environments; and (5) demonstrated experience with a wide range of educational technologies, applied instructional strategies, and instructional design of online learning. In addition, expert and current knowledge pertaining to the following academic areas is a requirement: Digital learning environments, including learning theories, instructional methodologies, research methodology in relation to digital learning environments, and design for accessibility, diversity, decolonization, and inclusivity. Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications: (1) interdisciplinary expertise and experience in new media practices and pedagogy, with an emphasis on crafts, theories, and technologies as utilized by and relevant to the design of formal and informal online, networked learning spaces; (2) commitments to and expertise with generative AI for new media and learning technologies; and (3) commitments to and expertise with decolonizing, reconciliation, anti-racist, and social justice approaches to teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will contribute to the MET program in areas that include the history and design of digital learning environments, including learning theories, instructional methodologies, research methodology in relation to digital learning environments, and design for accessibility, diversity, decolonization, and inclusivity. Relatedly, the successful candidate is expected to: (a) supervise directed study students; (b) supervise practicum placements; (c) assist the Director with tasks related to curriculum renewal; (d) participate fully in the affairs and activities of the MET program; and (e) keep abreast of current developments in the field of New Media and Learning Technologies. The annual teaching load for this position is 30 credits (equivalent to 10 courses), which may include administrative and coordination responsibilities, as assigned by the MET Director.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval. The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 – $110,000 per annum. Starting salary is determined both by the candidate’s qualifications and experience and by their placement on the career progress increments scale for Lecturers within the Faculty of Education.
